Instructional Software

1. Bugabaloo is a drill and practice math website that allows students to practice addition and subtraction and lets students know when their answers are incorrect. I was introduced to this website while doing my internship with a group of first graders and they loved it! I would use this website to incorporate technology during centers. The children love to work on the computer and this website is a great choice for math centers!

2. I discovered spell city this past school year. This website is a tutorial that allows students to plug in their spelling list, tutor them, as well as assess them. I would also use this during center time or during a whole group lesson. Several students use it as a homework tool and have seen improvement in their spelling!

3. Simulation

This website is great way to practice following directions.

This website provides puzzles that’ll keep your students on their toes. Cross word puzzles can be used with spelling words, high frequency words, and ect.

Strengthen Education with Smart Phones

When I was in school, the rule was to keep your cell phones at home. If you were caught with them, you may not see it until the end of the year. I was excited to know that the use of cell phones is being integrated into what is being taught in the classroom. Today there are many avenues to engage students in the classroom, but I think that this is one that will keep students in the upper grades excited about learning! In this video you will learn how the using the smart phone helped students to learn!

The Smartboard is a Smart Way to Engage Your Students!!

Keeping the students engaged is something that I try to do every second I’m teaching. I believe that if you have the students’ full attention it’s much easier to get through to them and the information sticks. I was given the opportunity to work with a smartboard during my internship. I think I may have enjoyed it more than the students did! While working with the smart board I noticed that the students seemed more excited about learning. Just like most students in a classroom, they were excited to simply come to the board and explore this new form of technology. The video I chose shows a way you can integrate technology into reading. Instead of flash cards to review high frequency words, this kindergarten class used a smartboard, my favorite! You will notice that every student in the video walks up to the board confident with a smile on their faces. I personally, think that the use of the smart board keeps the students excited about learning!
