Keeping the students engaged is something that I try to do every second I’m teaching. I believe that if you have the students’ full attention it’s much easier to get through to them and the information sticks. I was given the opportunity to work with a smartboard during my internship. I think I may have enjoyed it more than the students did! While working with the smart board I noticed that the students seemed more excited about learning. Just like most students in a classroom, they were excited to simply come to the board and explore this new form of technology. The video I chose shows a way you can integrate technology into reading. Instead of flash cards to review high frequency words, this kindergarten class used a smartboard, my favorite! You will notice that every student in the video walks up to the board confident with a smile on their faces. I personally, think that the use of the smart board keeps the students excited about learning!

I also like the fact that there are educational apps that can be used in the classroom. Letter School is a great app that allows students to tap, trace, and write letters. Its a wonderful tool for phonics. I have seen it used in the classroom and the students loved it. The app can be used on a smartphone or an ipad.
ReplyDeleteAlicia, the smartboard is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom. I wish I had the pleasure of using one in the classroom. New technology excites children and makes them want to learn. The great thing about technology is that it can be integrated in to all subjects.
ReplyDeleteI totally I agree with you Kimberly! I also think that it is fun for teachers to learn all of the new technology. Unfortunately I don't have the pleasure of using it in my classroom, but I pray that one day I will!
ReplyDeleteI agree that smartboards are an engaging technology. I enjoy presentations on the smartboard are more enjoyable than those on a plain whiteboard. The ability to surf the web, write additional information on the board and save it- this makes the lesson more interesting! Students love to get to write on a plain whiteboard so being able to interact with a smart is even better!
ReplyDeleteSmartboards are a great way to engage all students. Students love to come up in front of the class and use technology. We are fortunate to have promethean boards in every classroom this year. I am learning to use it. We receive training weekly in order for us to become experts with integrating it into our daily lesson plans. I agree this is a great too and students really love using them.
